Custom portal and automation for logistics operations
Apex Logistics Indonesia
Merlinbox designed a customer and ops portal that replaced spreadsheet status updates, connected shipment data via APIs, and automated notifications — cutting manual coordination for Apex Logistics and their clients.
Challenge
What stood in the way
Apex coordinated shipment status through shared spreadsheets, email threads, and WhatsApp groups. Clients constantly asked for updates; ops staff spent hours copying statuses between systems. Leadership wanted a client-facing portal and internal dashboards without ripping out every legacy backend at once.
Solution
What Merlinbox delivered
After process mapping and requirements workshops, we built a Next.js portal with role-based access for clients and internal teams. Shipment data syncs from their operational system through secure APIs; status changes trigger email and webhook notifications. An admin dashboard surfaces exceptions, SLA risks, and volume metrics. Merlinbox remains on maintenance for monitoring, dependency updates, and phased feature releases.
Results
Outcomes that matter
60% less status chasing
Client self-serve portal reduced repetitive “any update?” messages to the ops team.
Same-day visibility
Internal dashboards flag delayed shipments earlier than the previous spreadsheet process.
Phased modernisation
Legacy systems stayed online while the portal delivered immediate customer-facing value.
Documented APIs
Integration contracts allow Apex to extend partners and reports without rebuilding the portal.
